Deep Dives
A Deep Dive is a tailored and structured intervention within a Comprehensive Cancer Infrastructure (CCI). The purpose is to help the CCI build their capacity in particular domains (for instance early phase trials; molecular diagnostics or survivorship). It consists of site visits to the CCI by multidisciplinary expert teams, according to the specific domains of intervention chosen for that Deep Dive site.

Follow-up
The methodology
of interventions
- situational analyses; gap and barrier analyses
- prioritisation of actions which can achieve swift and effective change
- expert consultation
- establishing networks and collaborations
Team leaders' structure
Project Manager
Appointed by one of the partners for each of the 9 Deep Dive sites
Director of a Cancer Centre / University Cancer Institute
Team leader with some experience about cancer networks and infrastructures
Local coordinator
A coordinator that ensures success and coordination at a local level and the availability of personnel, resources and data at the CCI level, within the site itself, for each of the 9 Deep Dives
Outcome
Feedback of the effectiveness of the intervention will be obtained from the CCI on a structured basis, and the team will compile a report of the whole intervention, and the results of the intervention according to the quality indicators and the CCI MM, thus measuring improvements in maturity level following the intervention.
Capacity Building Conferences
Three capacity building conferences focusing on widening participation countries, but open to teams from all Member States and the participating Associated Countries, will be delivered.
The themes for training and Capacity Building offered at these conferences will be chosen with reference to the results of the CCI Maturity Model.
The themes will focus on the translation of cancer research, innovation and digitalisation into high quality care for all citizens – involving translational and clinical research, diagnostics including at a molecular level, all modalities of cancer treatment, establishing coherent CCIs, data flow, and patient empowerment.
Online Capacity Building
10 new one-day courses on relevant online trainings
will be developed and delivered via the ESO online learning platform, e-ESO. The courses will offer online training and educational materials to fill the gaps that each trainee team might have in relation of Capacity Building of their CCI.
Online interventions will consist of modules
of dedicated educational materials made accessible by all the CCIs via the Resource Centre that will be soon made available. The Resource Centre will be created to organise resources and help trainers and trainees to plan and implement their interventions.
There will be a coaching programme for capacity building experts
which will focus on the aims and objectives of the Capacity Building; the level of requirements for each specific criterion, as well as the standardisation of stages and reports.
